1. Do Some Photo Prep at Home:
Training at home will set you and your dog up for success. Do small exercises while on walks of sitting and staying as you back up. This will get your dog comfortable with this behavior and when you set them up with a beautiful scene behind them they will know the drill. Take it up a notch by teaching some fun tricks such as sit pretty and wave!

Winter is a perfect time to take pictures at Lake Louise.
Lake Louise can be a very busy spot to take pictures so plan ahead before you visit. For the best photos sunrise is usually the best time to take pictures here because there is no wind and the lake is glass which gives you the perfect reflections. You can easily spend an hour or two hours taking pictures from the lake or there are a dozen hikes from here to take jaw dropping pictures of your dog.
Easy hikes include Agnes Lake, Little Beehive and Lake Louise Lakeshore to the end of the lake. More difficult or farther hikes include Saddleback Ridge, Plains of the Six Glacier and the Big Beehive. The three very hard hikes and incredible opportuinties of great dog pictures would be Mount Fairview, Devil's Thumb and Mount St. Piran.

The Three Sisters can be seen from almost everywhere in Canmore but this particular spot will give you the best shot, as typically you can get a reflection of the sisters in the ponds below. A tricky spot to find as it is off the highway near the dog park, but it's worth the venture to find it. It’s also a great spot to stop in the winter as the ponds are frozen and there are lots of walking trails.
16. Whistler’s Peak, Jasper:
The great thing about Whistler's Peak in Jasper, you can get to the top on a gondola and dogs are allowed!
Take the Gondola up Whistlers Peak in Jasper, AB and experience the panoramic beauty of the Rockies. This is a great option to get an overview of the Mountains without having to hike the mountain. It's also great because you can take your dog on the Gondola with you! Don't be afraid to venture up the trail as there are a variety of viewpoints each providing a distinct visual experience. Larch Valley is best hiked in the Fall to see the larch trees, it is best to go from September 20 to the beginning of October. Hiking through a sea of golden larches with the ten peaks behind you is spectacular, the views are insanely beautiful, some of the best in the park, even better with your dog!
There are so many fantastic areas to explore up at Larch Valley, be sure to give yourself lots of time with your dog, you can even go all the way up to Sentinel Pass!

23. Raven’s End
This stunning hike begins in the magical aspen forest and quickly ascends to beautiful views overlooking Kananaskis. There are many look outs along this trail that are perfect spots to set up some candid photos of your dog, but save some film for the top as the mountains open up into a meadow surrounded by towering peaks. You can choose to summit mount Yamnuska or simply walk the ridge around the meadow for some amazing shots.
24. Spray Lakes:
Situated in Kananaskis, this reservoir offers an easily accessible spot to experience serene waters mirroring the towering peaks of the Spray Mountains reflected in the lake. The Spray Mountain range has 47 named mountains, including Mount Sir Douglas and great hiking trails nearby. The lake is also surrounded by campsites making it a great spot to stay overnight and get sunset and sunrise photos of your dog frolicking in the pristine waters.
25. Tent Ridge:
Tent Ridge is another classic hike in Kananaskis where you can get incredible views and pictures with your dog
A challenging hike that begins in the forest but quickly opens up to amazing views. We recommend to do this hike clockwise it is a lot easier that way. A combination of switchbacks and straightforward climbing. The scramble portion is hard so take your time, but those views are worth it!
